Exploring her world

Though Avirett can only see 8-14 inches from her face, she's starting to take notice of the things around her. She particularly likes windows and people, but she's starting to pay more attention to toys. Here's a video of her in her bouncy seat--she particularly likes the toucans on it!

Week 4 and lots of new firsts!

Avirett is now in her fourth week, and our family has experienced a lot of new firsts this week: Gramma Adams went home on Thursday and I had my first day alone with Avirett, I went to a baby shower on Sunday and Rob had his first day caring for Avirett by himself, yesterday I took Avirett for a walk around the neighborhood -- my first solo trip out with her. All in all a great week 4, so far!

To celebrate, I'm sharing some photos of a few other firsts in Avirett's life:

First car ride -- home from the hospital on Christmas Day

First nap with Grandpa Cartwright (one of many while they visited!)

First outing to a bar (actually just dinner at the Brickstore Pub in Decatur, and she slept under the stained glass window the entire time)

First New Year's Eve Celebration. After a fun "family-friendly" party, we headed home around 10 pm and she made it to midnight at home -- just barely.

Her first New Year's Day -- not an early start after that late evening before!

Gramma Adams last morning with Avirett -- the start of our first day alone together

And our first solo walk around the neighborhood!

Video of the baby...

Not terribly entertaining video, but give us a break - we're new to both this whole "blogging" thing and this whole "parenting" thing. They'll get better one day...probably...

The Newest Cartwright

Avirett Abney Cartwright came into our world on the morning of December 21. Nothing has ever been the same since...
